The term A.I (Artificial Intelligence) was coined by John McCarthy in 1956, and he defines it as "the science and engineering of making intelligent machines."
The Term A.I simply describes the ability of a machine (especially a computer) to perform operations that require intelligence which normally can only be performed by creatures with brains.
Basically, if a machine (computer) can learn, think and make decisions based on what is learnt, without human control it is called an A.I.
In January 2018, a recent innovation was launched by one of Nigerian leading banks UBA called LEO. LEO claims to be an A.I and to drive home this conviction, LEO has a human like interface. It is presented as an attractive young man, who at glance will be referred to by the modern generation as "COOL". In addition, LEO aside it's 22 banking basic functions claims do other 'cool' things such as download music, play videos on various social media chatting platforms (only facebook messenger for now).
From the encounter I had with LEO on Facebook chat; I have come to understand that LEO has 22 basic options or topics which LEO can help you out with including any trending issue, say for instance the World cup.
The 22 basic options which LEO performs, ranges from opening accounts, checking account balances, funds transfer to making emergency calls.
On ensuing a conversation with LEO, it or He asked for my country so that, it or He can serve me better. I typed 'Nigeria',then it listed out the 22 basic function to guide our conversation.
When I keyed in World cup bet (which was obviously not among the 22), LEO replied me the results of the previous matchday fixtures and the fixtures schedule for the next day. But this was not what I wanted. I was inquiring about a platform where I can make predictions and win money (as advertised by the bank)n but LEO did not get me. I tried other words such as 'predict', 'bet', 'win money', 'predict and win' all to no avail. LEO always replied me that He or it does not understand and always referred me to its 22 basic options. At this point I gave up.
After about 2 weeks, LEO chatted me up on facebook, thanking me for the conversation (of 2 weeks ago) and welcomed me to seek his assistance whenever I wish to perform any of its 22 basic functions. Throughout my conversation with LEO, it always felt like there was someone behind LEO reading and replying my chat.
Comparing LEO to the Google prototype A.I, Facebook A.I and the almighty (fictional) Winston portrayed in Dan Brown's Origin;
Can we say that LEO is an A.I is a FACT or THRASH
